Jungle Tours

The Cuyabeno Reserve, in the Amazon rainforest, is one of the most biologically diverse areas on the earth. You will encounter an awe inspiring combination of ecosystems ranging from igapo (overflooded forest) to terra firma on both our five and seven day excursions to Cuyabeno. In addition to seeing unique and diverse flora and fauna, you will have the opportunity to interact with the Siona Indians.

A naturalist guide and a Siona shaman accompany all of our tours, and help to insure an unforgetable experience. Also, you will enjoy your adventure and Cuyabeno's special environment in style, as all tours are outfitted with large tents and aluminum cots with matresses and sheets. And don't worry about going hungry; our cook makes delectable meals from the finest ingredients.

Learning about and protecting the natural world are integral parts of every trip we offer. We practice conservation as much as we do tourism so that the jungle will exist to be enjoyed by generations to come.

CUYABENO WILDLIFE RESERVE (4,5,7 Days)

East from the Andes begins the Amazon rain forest one of the richest areas in biodiversity on earth. The Cuyabeno reserve, of approx. 500,000 Ha, takes its name from one of the thousands of tributaries to the great Amazon river, which is a small branch with an average depth of 3 mts during the year. In this relatively small region we can find close to 500 species of birds and 400 species of mammals and fishes.

Near half the Ecuadorian territory is covered with tropical rain forest vegetation and for this reason not only the wildlife but the exuberant and unique vegetation plus the adventure of traveling in dugout canoes in almost paradisiacal lagoons make of this trip a very unique experience. A night excursion is also included on the program and completes our adventure. Not only the contact with pure nature but the cultural contact with one of the ancestral aboriginals leaving in this region, the Sionas, plays a major role, and no one better that their shaman to tell us those legendary secrets as an example the use of a singular flower for the birth control!!

This and more about natural medicine and singular stories and visions about this unique culture we will be able to learn in this excursion. Even though we are deep in the jungle we will make of this adventure a very comfortable experience sleeping in relatively ample and spacious tents with cots, mattresses and sheets. The daily menu will be prepared by our cook serving us a variety of delightful dishes after every excursion.

This program is conceived to give our guests the sense of adventure without the risk. We are sure that nature lovers will find this experience unforgettable. We offer also the possibility to make a deeper exploration for those photographers or specialists with a 7 days excursion which involves much more canoeing and rowing.

AMAZON LODGE (3,4,5 Days)

For those who don't have to much time or simply want a bit more of comfort we offer you the possibility to stay in a first class lodge. If you wish you can combine one or two nights of camping plus the adventure of rowing in dugout canoes. From the lodge we will visit not only the Cuyabeno reserve but the nearest Aguarico river and the Cofanes settlement giving you the opportunity of learning about this ancestral cultures and their overwhelming knowledge.
